DECCAN ODYSSY TOUR

The Deccan Odyssey happens to be the youngest of all the luxury trains running in India. The luxury train takes you across the land of the Marathas. The train covers some of the most famous destinations of the western India including the states of Goa and Maharashtra. The grand rail journey starts from Mumbai as you get to visit the forts and beaches of western India. The next big stop is at Goa where spend some quality time on the long sandy beaches, indulge in water sports and get to taste the yummiest of Goan delicacies. As you leave Pune and move towards Aurangabad, you come to visit the World Heritage Sites of Ajanta and Ellora Caves. Nasik, an important pilgrimage centre is also to be visited before you get back to the city of Mumbai.

Day 1: Wednesday
The rail journey starts from Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra. Also referred to as the financial capital of India, Mumbai is known for being home to the world-renowned Bollywood film industry which produces the largest number of films every year. Besides, the city is also known to be a centre of theatre, music, drama and dance.

Day 2: Thursday
Today, we get to visit the Jaigarh Fort, the Ganpatipule Beach and the Ratnagiri Fort. The Jaigarh Fort occupies a position at the meeting point of the Sangameshwar River and the Arabian Sea. The Ganpatipule is a tiny village situated on the western coast of India. The village offers to enjoy a 4-mile-long white sandy beach. Our next stop is at Ratnagiri, known all over for the luscious Alphonso mangoes. The main attraction in Ratnagiri is the Ratnagiri Fort. The fort also affords good views of the surrounding areas.

Day 3: Friday
Head towards the Konkan Coast, in fact to the tip of it. Take a boat ride to Sindhudurg to witness an ocean fort. Though in a state of dilapidation, the fort provides a wonderful insight into the past. At the fort, you'll come to see various temples dedicated to Mahadev, Jarimai, Mahapursh, Bhavani and Shivaji.

Next, we head towards the Tarkali beaches, located at the junction of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea. At the beach, we'll have the opportunity to enjoy a stay in Konkani-style cottages. Later, we drive to Sawantwadi, nestled in the Shayadri Mountains.

Day 4: Saturday
Today, we arrive at Goa. The state of Goa was ruled by the Portuguese for around 500 years. The colonial relics, the beaches and the numerous water sports options make Goa a preferred destination of every traveller. The state has a number of cathedrals and churches. Some of the most popular include the Se Cathedral, Basilica of Bom Jesus and the Church of St. Francis of Assissi.

Day 5: Sunday
We spend the day in Pune, famous as the cultural capital of the state of Maharashtra. Home to many world-renowned educational institutions, Pune is also referred to as the 'Oxford of the East'. We pay a visit to the Raja Kelkar Museum which is an incredible storehouse of antiquities belonging to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Agha Khan Palace and the Rajnish Osho Ashram are the other world famous tourist attractions in the city of Pune.

Day 6: Monday
The day is devoted to sightseeing in the city of Aurangabad and exploring the World Heritage Sites of Ajanta and Ellora Caves. We begin with a visit to the Daulatabad Fort, which after being attacked and bombed many times, stand as proud as ever. After visiting the cave temples of the Ellora Caves, we get back to Aurangabad where we get to see the Bibi Ka Maqbara, built in 1678.

Day 7: Tuesday
We visit the Buddhist caves at Ajanta, a World Heritage Site as declared by the UNESCO. As you visit the Ajanta Caves, you'll come to witness paintings and sculptures belonging between the 2nd century BC and 7th century AD. Nasik is our next stoppage. Here, we visit the Panchvati Ghat and the Sula Winery Yard.

Day 8: Wednesday
We arrive in Mumbai. Breakfast is served onboard. The tour concludes and you are transferred to the airport for your journey back home with happy memories of your tour.
